Menstrual cup SIZE!
- These can come in various sizes like extra-small, small or large.
- Choose a cup based on your age and obstetric history
- extra-small: for girls under 18 years of age
- small: for women above 18 years of age and have never given birth
- large: it's apt for women who have given birth vaginally
How to insert?
- Wash your hands before using cup
- Relax for a while as it helps to relax your pelvic floor muscles too.
- Find a position: half or deep squat depends upon once comfort
- Fold the menstrual cup. hold it with one hand
- While inserting the cup must face up & once the cup is in your vagina, twist & the cup opens within
- There are various ways to fold a cup
- During your cycles, you can just wash the menstrual cups with water. however. when you insert it for the first time at the beginning of the next cycle you must sterilize the cup.
How to remove??
- Wash your hands properly
- Find your position (squat)
- The insert our index finger and thumb into your vagina
- Stem of the cup will guide you to the bottom of the cup
- Now squeeze the bottom menstrual cup to break the suction
- You can twist the cup & the slowly take it out
How to sterilize the cup??
- Put the cup in boiling water for 2-5 minutes
- Make sure that the cup is fully submerged
- And store it in a cotton pouch
When to replace a cup??
- If the cups look discolored, disfigured, or have any other damage
Caution:
It is always better to get proper guidance from a medical professional if your are having ay of the following issues :
- If you are allergic to silicon
- If you have vaginismus
- Postpartum 6 weeks after a normal delivery
- If you have prolapse
- Not finding it to be comfortable
- Using IUDs
Tips:
- While using it for the first time have PATIENCE!!! try to first know your anatomy. Catch a mirror and explore the various structures.
- Learn to relax your pelvic floor muscles.
- sit comfortably
- your feet should touch the floor
- while inhaling contract the pelvic floor muscles & while exhaling relax your muscles
3. While removing if you are not able to grab the stem or bottom, just try to exert a bearing effort (during defecation/labour).
4. To break the vacuum you can also try to wiggle or tilt the cup side to side.
